Architectural and Interior Photography Process
I begin each shoot by using Sun Tracker software to check the sun's position and timing. This helps me determine the optimal location and time of day to capture the interplay of light with the building and’s interior spaces. This step is crucial, regardless of weather conditions. Of course, sunny days are great, but sometimes cloudy days can be superior for certain projects. The clouds act as a natural softbox, diffusing harsh sunlight and creating beautiful, soft, even lighting across the building or interiors.
I usually tether my camera to a laptop or iPad, providing a live preview of each shot. This allows for precise adjustments to the arrangement of the space, ensuring every detail is perfectly positioned for the final photograph.
When it is relevant, I incorporate additional lighting with the use of off-camera flashes to replicate sunlight and/or create soft, diffused lighting with a variety of flash techniques. The strategic use of lighting can considerably enhance the mood and depth of interior spaces, bringing them to life.
Once the shoot is complete, the next and critical stage begins, the editing process. This generally involves more time than the shoot itself. Removing distractions, colour balancing to achieve the desired style, blending images together, and numerous other adjustments, refinements, enhancements and details. I will export files carefully for your intended usage (web, print, social, etc) and pass on our licensed images in a timely manner.
